7/7, Rev. Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze Oct. 1, 1930 - July 7, 2018
The members of Marian Council #3779 of the Knights of Columbus were truly blessed to have had Monsignor Carson LaCaze as their Council Chaplain for 22 years. On July 1, 2018 he had just completed 70 years as a Knight of Columbus.
A native of Cypress, Louisiana, Msgr. LaCaze grew up in Natchitoches before attending seminary training at Maryhill in Alexandria, LA and the Pontifical Academy Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. There he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood for the Diocese of Alexandria on May 25, 1957. After ordination, he began his priestly ministry at St. Mary's Assumption Parish in Cottonport, Louisiana, as an associate. His first assignment was to two parishes, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Shreveport and Pastor of Christ the King Parish in Bossier City.
Monsignor LaCaze treasured his role as the State Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus with whom he had great affection for as a Fourth Degree member.
On November 20, 1994, in the Prayer Garden of Holy Rosary Church, Monsignor Carson LaCaze, on our behalf and accompanied by other Knights of Columbus councils in the Shreveport area and the Bishop Desmond Assembly Honor Guard, dedicated a monument to the Unborn Child.
November 5, 1995, marked an important milestone in the history of Marian Council, as on this date Monsignor Carson LaCaze was with other Brother Knights to dedicate our new Council Home located on Buncombe Road.
In July 1996 Monsignor Carson LaCaze, while serving the parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary was installed as the Chaplain of Marian Council #3779 in Shreveport. He was also our Priest, Spiritual Leader, Friend and Brother Knight. We enjoyed his company many time as he frequently visited us at his council hall on Buncombe Road. We will miss his warm smile, that stern handshake followed by a quick wit, followed by his laughter. His memory will alway be among us. VIVAT JESUS!
"Eternal rest grant him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. Rest in peace our Brother Knight."
